Kern Studio

Human judgment.
AI velocity.

Brand to deployed product in weeks, not quarters. Humans own every decision that matters. AI does the rest — so we move at a speed the old agency model can't.

§ 01 — Capabilities

What we do

Two disciplines, one practice — now moving at a speed the old agency model can't touch. Humans own the taste and the judgment. AI handles the rest, so work that used to take a quarter ships in weeks. The same team draws the brand and writes the code that ships it.

4 disciplines

Creative

The look, the language, the ideas. Identity and image-making with a point of view.

  • 01 /

    Brand identity

Naming, marks, type and colour systems — explored at AI speed, decided by a human eye.

  • 02 /

    Campaign & poster

Campaign systems, posters, launch graphics. Typographically led, rapidly iterated.

  • 03 /

    Editorial design

Publications, reports, and the production systems that keep them shipping.

  • 04 /

    Digital collage

Image-making and art direction for screens — AI in the toolkit, never the author.

3 disciplines

Technical

The build, the systems, the code. Engineering that starts from the design intent.

  • 01 /

    Web — front & back

Scaffolded by AI, finished by hand. The design, built exactly as drawn — fast.

  • 02 /

    Automation & AI

Internal tools, pipelines, and AI features that earn their place. Our home turf.

  • 03 /

    Security advisory

Posture reviews, tooling evaluation, and roadmaps. A senior read, on demand.

§ 02 — How we use AI

Built with AI

Most studios still build everything by hand. That's why they're slow — and why they cost what they cost. We don't.AI does the work that doesn't need a human. Humans do the work that does.

2–4 wkIdea to shipped product
10×Directions explored per round
100%Decisions made by a human

Human owns

  • The brief — and whether it’s the right one
  • Taste, judgment, the final call
  • Art direction and the typographic eye
  • Architecture and the security read
  • Everything a client actually pays for

AI accelerates

  • First drafts, dozens at a time
  • Boilerplate, scaffolding, plumbing
  • Variations and the long tail of options
  • Copy passes, refactors, test coverage
  • The grunt work that used to eat the timeline

What we've built

  • Counterpoint

A research lab needed an identity its own people could keep using — and the tooling to actually do it.

A custom variable wordmark, a constrained editorial grid, and a full system of templated layouts for reports and slides.

§ 04 — Method

How we work

Most agencies are slower than they need to be.

A design shop hands a file to a dev shop, both bill by the hour, and the work crawls. We close that gap — one team, brand to deploy — and we put AI on every part that doesn't need a human. The result is faster than the old model can move, and it holds up.

  • No handoff seam

Nothing gets lost translating a design file into a brief for someone else. The people who decide how it looks decide how it is built — and AI never sits between them.

  • AI types, humans decide

We don't hand the thinking to a model. We hand it the typing — the drafts, the scaffolding, the variations — and keep every choice that matters in human hands.

  • Fast, and accountable

Speed without ownership is just risk. One team owns the whole thing, brief to deploy — so moving fast never means no one answers for it.

The space between is where it matters.
